We’re kicking off our EdTech app spotlight series this week, and first up is Gynzy (www.gynzy.com)—an interactive teacher whiteboard that offers so much more than meets the eye.

Honestly, I wish I’d discovered Gynzy back when I was still in the classroom. To be fair, they only launched in 2019, and my last year teaching was 2021. Now that I’m tutoring online, I stumbled across Gynzy through a Google search, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Gynzy is an educational technology company founded in 2009, with its headquarters in Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, and a U.S. office in New York City. The company began with a small, passionate team determined to create an enjoyable, easy-to-use online teaching platform, specifically designed to help teachers get the most out of interactive whiteboards.

Gynzy’s mission is all about supporting teachers by developing digital learning resources on their online whiteboard platform, designed for K-12 students and educators. Today, thousands of teachers rely on Gynzy to build and deliver lessons, engage students, and manage classrooms with ease. The platform encourages richer, more frequent interactions between teachers and students, and even fosters collaboration among students, whether learning happens in person or online.

At first glance, Gynzy might seem like a straightforward digital whiteboard, but a closer look reveals a wealth of features.

You’ll find all the classic interactive whiteboard tools—drawing in multiple colors, an eraser (with a handy “erase all” option), text, and shapes (including both 2D and 3D, which is fantastic for geometry lessons).

But what really stands out is the tools section and the lesson library. Here’s just a taste of what you get:

Classroom management tool library interface showcasing various utilities such as Voice Levels, Traffic Light, Attendance, and more for enhancing educational organization and efficiency.

Classroom Management Tools:

  • Voice level indicators

  • Traffic lights

  • Attendance trackers

  • Seating charts

  • Buddy pickers

  • Timers (and much more!)

Randomizers & Generators:

  • Math problem, number, and letter generators

  • Digital dice

  • Group pickers

  • Charts (pie, bar, line)

Lesson Builders & Utilities:

  • Buttons, covers, and curtains

  • QR code generators

  • Sticky notes

  • Spotlights

  • Flip tiles, flash cards, scoreboards

  • World and Europe maps

Math Tools:

  • Charts, graphs, and number lines

  • Clocks, timers, and money activities

Games & Activities:

  • Birthday cake

  • Game show

  • Memory

  • Save the Robot (think hangman, but more inclusive)

  • Bingo and picture bingo

And that’s just scratching the surface! There’s also a huge library of ready-to-use lessons that you can favorite for quick access, plus the ability to cast lessons interactively to student devices. You can prepare a lesson, save it for later, and even share it with colleagues.

I’ve even digitized some of my old paper-based activities with Gynzy. For example, I used to have a phonics activity involving paper dice and worksheets. With Gynzy, I was able to create a customizable digital die and make the entire activity interactive for my students. It’s become a staple in my tutoring sessions.

What does Gynzy do well?

Gynzy really shines in a few key areas:

  • Real-time interactivity: Teachers (and students, in interactive mode) can draw, highlight, and adapt lessons on the fly, responding instantly to classroom needs.

  • Multimedia integration: Easily embed images, videos, games, activities, and quizzes to cater to different learning styles and keep lessons engaging.

  • Time-saving tools: Ready-made templates, lesson plans, and a robust activity library help teachers build lessons quickly, cutting down on prep time.

  • Classroom management: Tools like timers, name generators, and word/image covers help keep lessons running smoothly and students focused.

  • Student engagement: Features like the “Open Question” tool allow for real-time feedback and interactive discussions, boosting participation and critical thinking.

Where could Gynzy improve?

Based on my experience and what other users have shared, here are a few areas for growth:

  • More formatting options: Some users would love enhanced formatting capabilities for even greater customization. For example, I wanted a four-column chart but only found two- and three-column options. While I found a workaround, it took extra steps and time.

  • Smoother tool switching: The pen and eraser tools are generally user-friendly, but there’s room for even more seamless transitions—perhaps a “presentation mode” with a floating toolbar for the most-used tools could help.

  • Expanded resources: As Gynzy grows, users expect a steady stream of new interactive resources and features to keep things fresh and relevant.

  • Better onboarding: Personally, I found the initial user orientation a bit overwhelming. While there’s a walkthrough at the start, more accessible tooltips would be helpful for first-time users. With so many tools and templates, a little extra guidance would go a long way.

At its core, Gynzy is driven by a strong set of values. The company believes that happy teachers are the key to educational success. Their culture is built on autonomy, collaboration, and a commitment to delivering quality and value efficiently.

Gynzy employs around 60 to 80 people, including educators, developers, and support staff, all dedicated to making classroom technology engaging and effective. In 2025, the company generated about $16.4 million in revenue, primarily through school district licensing.
